What happens if there is inclement weather?

Weather permitting, the ceremony is held on Hartman Green in the center of campus.  Should we have inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center (ASFC).  Doors will open at 8:30 am.  Updated information can be found on the day of the ceremony by checking the College website or by calling 717-358-3848.

Do we need tickets for the Ceremony? 

No, tickets are not required,  but we do recommend that you arrive early to find your seats.

Is there special parking and seating for handicapped guests? 

Yes, there is a convenient drop-off location, and special parking and seating for handicapped guests.

Can I watch the ceremony online?

The ceremony will be broadcast live through the College’s online streaming portal. That footage will also be available on-demand for a limited time following the day of the event.

In addition, the ceremony will be simultaneously broadcast on campus, in the air-conditioned comfort of the Bonchek Auditorium, located in the Ann & Richard Barshinger Life Sciences & Philosophy Building for those that may wish to have an alternative place on campus to watch the ceremony.

Can we stay overnight on campus?

Yes, the College is making space available in a residence hall for parents and guests. 

Rooms are available Friday & Saturday, May 10 & 11.  Check in will be held Friday in the New College House Living Room from noon until 7 p.m. and check out by noon on Sunday, May 12. 

If you will arrive after 7 p.m. on Friday, please notify Kendel Lyn Jackson at kjackso1@fandm.edu so that your key packet can be taken to the Office of Public Safety, off Race Avenue, for pick up. 

Room rates are $75 for double occupancy and $55 for single occupancy, per night.  Bed linens, a small towel and washcloth are provided. You may wish to bring your own pillow.  Larger towels and shower supplies are not provided.

The reservations can be made online.  Reservations received after May 1 are not guaranteed.

While parents and guests often enjoy this opportunity to be “in residence,” please understand that residence halls do not offer private and personal accommodations.  For those uncomfortable with a group living environment, we recommend making off-campus arrangements.

How can I locate a list of local overnight accommodations and restaurants? 

A list of local restaurants and overnight accommodations is available at our Dining and Staying in Lancaster web page.  If making reservations for lunch following the ceremony, we recommend making your reservation for 1:30 pm and later, so that the graduates and families can enjoy the post commencement reception.

What should I do about lost and found items? 

Lost and found items will be held at the Information Desk in the Steinman College Center.

How and when can we order graduation announcements? 

Graduation announcements, as well as many other graduation items including diploma frames, can be ordered at www.collegegrad.herffjones.com

Is there an F&M diploma display frame that we can purchase as a gift for our graduate? 

College partners with Diploma Display, an outside vendor, from whom you can purchase diploma display frames.  Diploma frames are available for purchase at the Franklin & Marshall Bookstore, or on the Bookstore website, www.fandm.bncollege.com

How and when does my student order his/her cap and gown? 

Caps and gowns must be pre-ordered at www.collegegrad.herffjones.com from February 16, 2019 to March 1, 2019.  The Bookstore will send notice to seniors to begin ordering and also many reminders.  Payment of $56.98 is due when the caps and gowns arrive in mid-April.  Students will be notified when the caps and gowns are available for pick up at the Bookstore.  If you do not pre-order, there will be caps and gowns available for purchase at the Bookstore through May 11, 2019.

How do I capture the Moment? 
There will be a designated photo area to the left of the stage.  Signage will mark the location.  In addition, Commencement photographs can be purchased from GradImages.  All students who participate in Commencement will receive an email from GradImages with instructions on how to order photographs.  This email will be sent to the student’s F&M email account. 
Will there be an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for the ceremony? 
Yes, there will be an American Sign Language interpreter on stage for the commencement ceremony. 

Will the Book Store be open?  

Yes, the Book Store will be open on Friday, May 10th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

 

Will Blue Line Café be open? 

Yes, the Blue Line Café will be open on Friday, May 10th from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

In addition, there will be water stations on site of the Commencement ceremony and the shuttle stop locations.
