Biography

Hillen joined F&M in April of 2019. As a first generation and Pell eligible college student himself, he is passionate about having a positive impact on prospective students and their families navigate their respective college searches. Growing up in the diverse suburbs between Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC has played a major role in shaping Hillen’s philosophy on the value of immersing oneself in a globally diverse community like F&M’s.

Prior to joining F&M, Hillen spent six years at Albright College where he served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball coach and worked in the Office of Admission. He began his career in higher education as an Assistant Men’s Basketball coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

When not traveling or reading applications, Hillen enjoys spending time with his wife Brittany and their three children. They are avid sports fans, and are excited by the warm welcome they received upon joining the F&M community.

What does being a Diplomat mean to you?

To me, a Diplomat is someone who represents their community with the highest regard. Additionally, a Diplomat is someone who can work with their peers in a respectful and effective manner, to achieve the best possible outcome.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

The Diplomatic Cafe, also known as the “D-Caf”. This is F&M’s on campus coffee shop, which is a great source for a midday pick me up! The D-Caf is always buzzing with energy from current students, faculty, and staff. Pro tip: If you are looking for a cozy spot to enjoy your favorite beverage, check out the second floor.

What is your favorite part about Lancaster?

The cultural diversity in the city and local area. As someone who grew up in a community rich with cultural diversity, Lancaster truly feels like home. One of my favorite ways to experience the great cultures that make up our city is through food! You can find almost any cuisine in Lancaster, from Greek, to Trinidadian, and even Ethiopian!
