Fellowship opportunities for first-years

Amgen Scholars Japan Program for first-years, sophomores, or juniors to conduct research in the summer in fields such as, but not limited to: biochemistry, chemistry, immunology, neurobiology and neuroscience at top premier universities in Japan. Deadline: February 1.

BMI John Lennon Scholarship for first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors or alumni, who are songwriters. Deadline: February 1.

Boren Scholarship* for first-years, sophomores, juniors or seniors interested in studying abroad in regions critical to US interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Campus contact: Dean Sue Mennicke .

Brooke Owens Fellowship Program for female first-years, sophomores, juniors or seniors interested in pursuing a career in aerospace, regardless of their major. Deadline: December 5.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals* for first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and alumni to spend one year in Germany studying and then working. Although knowledge of German is preferred, it is not necessary. Campus contact: Prof. Meagan Tripp, German department.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Summer Congressional Internship* for Latino first-years, sophomores, and juniors interested in interning in a congressional office in Washington, DC. Deadline: December 10

Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS)* for first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors or alumni currently enrolled in a graduate program who need to develop language and cultural skills in less-commonly taught languages. Deadline: November 16. Campus contact: Prof. Bond.

Dream Summer Fellowship (UCLA) for first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors or alumni, who are immigrants, interested in working for ten weeks at immigrant rights organizations. Deadline: February 15.

Freeman Asia* for first-years, sophomores, or juniors with at least one term remaining upon returning from the program, demonstrated financial need, and limited prior experience in East and Southeast Asia, pursuing summer language study abroad. Minimum GPA 2.8. Application opens early February and closes on March 14.

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes* for first-years and sophomores with a keen interest in British culture and history to study at one of several UK institutions during the summer for 3 to 4 weeks. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 required. Deadline: February 6. Campus contact: Prof. Bond.

Gilman* for first-years, sophomores, juniors, or seniors receiving a Pell Grant pursuing study abroad, especially outside Western Europe. Campus contact:  Dean Sue Mennicke.  

Harvard Public Policy and Leadership Conference (PPLC)* for first-years or sophomores, particularly from historically underserved communities including DACA students, pursuing studies in public policy. Deadline: November 2.

Leadership Alliance/Summer Research-Summer Research Early Identification Program (Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM Summer Research)* for first-years, sophomores, and juniors, especially from populations historically underrepresented, intending to pursue a PhD or MD-PhD in the humanities, social sciences and physical sciences. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required. Deadline: February 1.

Saltire Scholarship (Scotland) for first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or alumni, who are citizens of the US, Canada, China, and India, pursuing a year of undergraduate or graduate study at any institution in Scotland. Special attention to studies devoted to any one of these sectors: creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy. Deadline: May 1.

TUSA: Taiwan U.S. Alliance Summer Scholarship* for first-years, sophomores, juniors, or seniors, who are not of Chinese or Taiwanese descent, to study Chinese language and culture in Taiwan during eight weeks of the summer. at one of the country's premier universities. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. No prior knowledge of Chinese needed. Deadlines: February 15 (early) and March 31 (regular).
