Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government. F&M’s Title IX Office ensures the College’s compliance with this fundamental law and fosters a living, learning and working environment free of discrimination and harassment.

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) is committed to fostering a living, learning and working environment free of discrimination and harassment. F&M does not discriminate on the basis of sex and will not tolerate sexual misconduct in any form, including as defined by Title IX or F&M’s community standards. Franklin & Marshall College will not tolerate unlawful discrimination, harassment, or retaliation on the basis of sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.  

Title IX obligates F&M to provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment for the broader F&M Community. Under Title IX, you have the right to:

  • Live and learn at F&M free from gender discrimination.
  • File a complaint according to F&M Sexual Misconduct Policies.
  • Request a criminal investigation by law enforcement.
  • Seek and be provided with supportive measures, including but not limited to medical, mental health and legal, visa/ immigration status assistance.
  • File a claim and receive a prompt and equitable resolution to complaints under Title IX.
  • Request and obtain a No Contact Order and to receive information and assistance with obtaining Orders of Protection from local law enforcement.
  • Be free from retaliation for exercising your rights.
  • Be provided resources for on and off campus support and health services.
