On Thursday, March 26, Franklin & Marshall College will host the first DeRoy Judaic scholar in residence, Professor S. Ilan Troen, who is the Stoll family chair in Israel studies and director of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University. Professor Troen will spend the day meeting and breaking bread with small groups of students, and will also attend Professor Marco Di Giulio’s class, "The Founding of Israel."
At 7:30 p.m., Professor Troen will give a public lecture titled “Ben-Gurion: Ideology vs. Reality – Reflections on the Past and Present.” Hillel is pleased to be able to support these events. We are all grateful to Dr. Al K. DeRoy, Ph.D., M.P.A., '70 for providing the support for this endowed fund, which allows us to host Judaic scholars or artists in residence. Dr. DeRoy was a founder of F&M Hillel in 1967 and served as co-president for the 1968-1969 academic year. He is happy to be able to provide these opportunities to current students and the community.
The lecture given by Professor Troen is open to the public. It will be held at the Klehr Center for Jewish Life at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26.
