  • Gifts from IRA

    Make a Smarter Donation
If you are 70 ½ or older, your donations could be saving you more on your tax bill.
Franklin & Marshall College donors who are 70.5 or older are eligible to make tax-free donations from their IRAs, known as Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD), regardless of whether or not they itemize deductions on their tax returns.
    How it works:
    1. Use this free tool to calculate an estimate of how much you are required by law to withdraw from your IRA this year. It will also give you a sense of how much that withdrawal will increase your tax bill and how much of a tax penalty you’ll incur if you don’t withdraw those funds.
    2. Choose how much of that sum you’d like to donate to F&M as a tax-free QCD gift.
    3. Follow the personalized instructions based on which financial institution manages your IRA, and save money on your tax bill while creating a way forward, together.

  • Give by Donor-Advised Fund

    What is a donor-advised fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like a charitable savings account. When you make an irrevocable gift to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program, you get an immediate tax deduction and can recommend later how much and how often money is granted to F&M or other charities.

    How does it work?
    • Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.
    • Advise the investment allocation of the donated assets (any investment growth is tax-free).
    • Recommend grants to qualified public charities of your choice.

If you choose to recommend a grant to F&M from your DAF, please ask the sponsoring organization to send checks made payable to “Franklin & Marshall College” to one of the following addresses.

    Franklin & Marshall College
    Office of College Advancement
    Attn: Advancement Services
