Jose Chavarry, PhD.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish
B.A. in History & Spanish, Manhattan College 2012; PhD in Latin American, Iberian and Latino Cultures, The Graduate Center (City University of New York), 2019.
Jose's scholarly interests include Latin American literary and cultural production during the Cold War, specifically dealing with networks of solidarity and artistic commitment. His dissertation, Working Lives: Artistic Solidarity in Revolutionary Peru (1960-1980) analyzes the practices and discourses of cultural work as a form of solidarity in the 1960s and 1970s in Peru, during the period of the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces. His secondary project looks at Latin American travelers (from Chile and Argentina) in the People's Republic of China during the 1950s and 1960s.
