[Office of the President] Planning for Fall 2021 and Beyond

Dear F&M community,

We are optimistic and excited about a fully residential fall 2021 semester, with all class years back on campus, a return to the two-semester academic schedule, and with in-person teaching as our primary delivery method.

Of course, we recognize that there is much we cannot predict and, if necessary, we will be prepared to change course. Factors that will inform our decisions include future pandemic conditions and their impact on students, faculty, and staff; government guidelines; and global travel restrictions. However, with improvement in the number of new infections nationally and locally and vaccination efforts underway, we are planning for a fully reopened residential campus in the fall.

As has been true since the start of the pandemic, we remain dedicated to fulfilling F&M's mission. Realizing that mission means providing an educational experience that launches Diplomats into lives of meaning and success, with a robust residential experience that continues to prioritize the health and safety of the community. We anticipate that we will have much more detail available by early June, and we will keep the community informed between now and then as plans develop.

We know you will have many questions, and we will answer them as we are able. You will be hearing from us frequently. Thank you for your sustained resilience, adaptability, and generosity of spirit as we successfully meet the challenges and opportunities of the spring term and then move forward, together, toward fall 2021 and beyond.
