For many years the Millport Conservancy has been at the heart of Franklin & Marshall College's freshman pre-orientation program, PIT, the enrichment program for those entering Franklin & Marshall. PIT couples the rewarding experience of community service with group activities focused on leadership development and team bonding.
Across the multitude of service projects PIT offers, none epitomize these philosophies and objectives quite like the Millport-based Clean Air, Clean Water group. "Interest in the environment" and "enjoy getting dirty" are the two main requirements for this program, yet Millport's real success is in its ability to connect with students who initially wouldn’t consider the possibilities of the outdoors. Millport provides students with a truly immersive natural environment, with opportunities to explore the landscape of Lancaster beyond the campus of F&M.
By the end of their week at Clean Air, Clean Water, our incoming students experience a newfound connection to Millport, forged through working and walking on nature trails and along the winding river bends that compose the vast, wild and beautiful land preserved at Millport.
