Members of the Class of 2023 ‘Cross the Threshold’ at Convocation

More than 600 eager faces, some perhaps bleary-eyed from lack of sleep, assembled Aug. 27 in the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center for Franklin & Marshall College’s annual Convocation. There, College President Barbara Altmann welcomed the Class of 2023.

“It’s all part of crossing the threshold, that point of entry into a new adventure,” she said. “Here today, we, your community, have called you together to witness your transition onto the winding, exhilarating path of a Franklin & Marshall education, and into the new space where you will find your voice.”

The 90-minute event also featured remarks on behalf of the faculty by David Roberts, associate professor of biology and the 2018 recipient of the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, as well as senior Elisjana Beqiri, who represented returning students. Convocation marks the official start of the academic year; Franklin & Marshall’s fall semester classes begin Aug. 28.
