F&M College Communications Welcomes New Associate Vice President, Director of Media Relations

Eric Quiñones, managing editor of news and editorial services at Princeton University, has been named associate vice president for communications at Franklin & Marshall College. Quiñones begins his new position Aug. 20 in the Office of College Communications.

The office is responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications efforts for the College, and recently also hired a new director of media relations. Julia Ferrante, assistant director of news and recruitment communications at Bucknell University, will join F&M July 30.

Quiñones, who has nearly two decades of experience in journalism and communications, works with the management team in Princeton's Office of Communications to oversee staff responsible for writing, editing and coordinating news and feature stories for Princeton's core website and print and online publications. Recently, he also played a role overseeing media relations, social media, emergency communications, and other priority messaging for external and internal audiences at Princeton.

"I am thrilled to join the Franklin & Marshall team, and I look forward to helping guide our efforts to tell the stories of the people and programs that make this one of the nation's premier educational institutions," said Quiñones, a graduate of Indiana University. "I am inspired by President (Daniel) Porterfield's mission to have F&M take a national leadership role in education reform and to develop distinctive approaches to attracting and supporting talented students from all backgrounds. This is an exciting time to become a part of the F&M community."

Quinones will play a central role in overseeing the implementation of expanded uses of the F&M News website, multimedia, social media and other evolving approaches to tailored marketing, recruitment and communications. The first to hold the associate vice president position at the College, he will manage daily operations in the Office of College Communications and support Vice President for Communications Cass Cliatt in guiding communications strategy for F&M.

"Eric's 18 years of experience in communications—with the last decade in higher education—make him an excellent addition to a staff that is highly focused on meeting the needs of an institution that is part of an evolution of how colleges communicate to reach our audiences," Cliatt said. "Eric will play a key role in everyday efforts to take advantage of new tools and strategies to maximize our engagement with students and parents, with faculty and staff, and with alumni and donors, among all stakeholders at F&M."

Quiñones joined Princeton in 2002. Prior to becoming managing editor of news and editorial services in 2010, he served as managing editor of the Princeton University Bulletin, Princeton's faculty-staff newspaper. Previously he served as Princeton's senior writer, interim media relations manager and media relations officer. Earlier in his career, he worked as a national business writer for The Associated Press in New York and as a senior writer and editor for Syclo LLC in Barrington, Ill. He said he looks forward to bringing all aspects of his experience to his role at the College.

"The rapidly evolving nature of communications requires a constant evolution in thinking about how to best make use of traditional and emerging media tools to reach the College's many external and internal audiences," Quiñones said. "It also requires a commitment by the communications team to collaborate with and provide service to the full spectrum of the campus community. I am eager to engage with F&M faculty members, students, professional staff and alumni as our team works to communicate the College's priorities, initiatives and commitment to academic excellence."

Ferrante, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, has been assistant director of news and recruitment communications at Bucknell since 2011 after serving three years as senior news writer in the university's Office of Communications. She previously worked for 15 years as a news and features reporter for daily newspapers, covering beats in higher education, government, criminal courts and public health.

Ferrante succeeds Dulcey Antonucci, who served as F&M’s director of media relations for three years before becoming director of communications at Lancaster Country Day School in December 2011.

"I am excited to join the talented communications team at F&M and to tell the stories of the College on a national level," Ferrante said. "I look forward to learning more about and sharing the exciting news of research and learning opportunities happening here."
