Off-Campus Study
A Diplomat's Influence Reaches Everywhere
Off-campus study experiences aren’t simply time away from campus; they’re meaningfully woven into your entire academic journey at F&M. You play an important role in ensuring your off-campus study experiences are meaningful and challenging — and this starts with choosing your off-campus study program. You will work with your academic adviser and your off-campus study adviser for a full year to craft an experience that complements your F&M degree and goals — whether it be a semester-long program, a summer internship, or a research project. This individualized, hands-on support before, during, and after your off-campus study experience will ensure you have the best opportunities for growth and success.

iF&M (the i stands for international) is a program during which a select group of
up to 12 first-years spend the fall semester living and learning in England under
the guidance of an F&M faculty member. Outside the classroom, you’ll have the chance
to explore London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, and other awe-inspiring locations
steeped in culture and history.iF&M, A One-Of-A-Kind Academic and Cultural Experience
A Summer Living in Britain's Ancient Past
Over the course of five weeks, Metz, an anthropology major, enjoyed immersive history
and archaeology lessons that took her to the Roman Baths, a Roman amphitheater, and
the Corinium Museum in the Cotswolds, where she observed and handled Roman and Celtic
collections.
“During the last weekend of the program, our class also went on a weekend study trip
to London’s British Museum to see the ancient Greek gallery and a Gilgamesh tablet,”
she said. “We also visited the London Mithraeum, an underground temple used by the
Cult of Mithras, a mystery religion that flourished across the Roman empire.”
Beyond the class trips, Metz independently traveled to a lesser-known Neolithic site,
the Stoney Littleton Long Barrow, where she was able to crawl inside the 6,000-year-old
chambered tomb.
Metz said that while her classes were rigorous, she has never had a more enriching
and fun experience.
“I grew so much as a student and as a person during my five weeks in Bath,” she said.
“I know that this experience has set me up to succeed both academically and in my
chosen career path.”

“I’ve always loved art and I’ve always loved history, so I was excited to pursue a
blend of the two things I’m most interested in academically,” she said.
Wade followed this passion to F&M — and around the world. With the support of an F&M
art history summer research grant, Wade traveled to Amsterdam and England to study
different methods of displaying Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh’s art. She also spent
a summer with the The Art Institute in Chicago and enjoyed a semester abroad in Rome
gaining more exposure to art handling.

October 23, 2025 Alex Scarboro ’26 is following his own blueprint for a career in architecture. The senior designed a custom major in studio art and business, organizations, and society. “My decision to combine the two disciplines was rooted in my innate love for architecture and art,” Scarboro said. October 1, 2025 A Diplomat's influence reaches everywhere — even the skies of Japan. This summer, a handful of astrophysics majors and their professor enjoyed a two-week trip to Japan that was “part pulsar science expedition, part cultural exchange related to the NANOStars program at F&M," says Fronefield Crawford, Charles A. Dana Professor of Physics and Astronomy. September 17, 2025 Eleanor Metz '27 did more than study Roman history this summer. She lived it in the 18th-century city of Bath – one of England’s most significant cultural sites – through F&M’s Advanced Studies in England program.#FandMEverywhere
