Welcome Spring Transfer Families!

We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our newest students and their families. Our incoming students, arriving on campus just before returning students, will enrich our community. New parents may find it helpful to consult the Parents and Families section of F&M’s website, as well as the Academic Calendar. Welcome to the F&Mily!

Information for Students Planning to Apply to PSSI

F&M’s Public Service Summer Institute (PSSI) is a great opportunity for rising juniors and seniors to gain valuable experience working at a local nonprofit or government entity.

Accepted students spend eight weeks under the guidance of carefully selected mentor-supervisors. Students work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (32 hours per week) at a local nonprofit or government entity in an internship role that will either help their assigned organization expand capacity or evaluate current efforts. Every Wednesday, PSSI students come together as a cohort to embark on a hands-on exploration of a broader local community issue/opportunity while meeting a variety of local stakeholders and experts along the way. At the end of their experience, they spend their final Wednesday meeting sharing their insights and possible solutions with an invested group of community stakeholders.

If you think your student may be interested in this opportunity, encourage him or her to apply if he or she meets the following criteria:

  • Will be a rising junior or senior this summer
  • Has a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to immerse himself or herself in the everyday work of a local nonprofit or government entity to address social issues
  • Is available from June 3 through July 31

The student application period begins Jan. 27 and ends Feb. 16 at 11:59 p.m.

Plan a Visit to Lancaster This Spring

F&M's Office of Student and Post-Graduate Development (OSPGD) invites all class years and majors to the 2020 Job and Internship Fair, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center (ASFC).

Sure, it's been great having your student home, but remember -- spring semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 21. College houses and theme houses will open Sunday, Jan. 19.

Have you given some thought to visiting your student this spring? Lancaster is a city on the move, and there's so much to see and do (in addition to visiting your student and strolling the campus). Depending upon when you visit, there are sure to be interesting events going on throughout the area. Many of the smaller towns, in addition to Lancaster City, celebrate on particular Fridays, with stores open longer hours, featured musicians, and/or specials in restaurants. We're looking forward to seeing you!
