F&M Names Student Affairs Leader Robert Mikus Dean of Students

Robert “Bob” Mikus will join Franklin & Marshall College as Dean of Students July 14. With more than 30 years of experience in student affairs, Mikus is widely regarded as a collaborative and visionary leader, known for building inclusive, student-centered environments that promote wellness, engagement, and belonging.

Most recently, Mikus served as Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. There, he provided strategic leadership across 10 departments and over 120 staff and volunteers, spearheading initiatives that improved student retention, strengthened wellness services, and enhanced the residential experience.

Prior to his time at Lebanon Valley, Mikus held several key positions at Stevenson University, including Dean of Students and Associate Dean & Director of Residence Life. He began his student affairs career at Elizabethtown College, where he served as Coordinator and later Associate Director of Residence Life.

Across his career, Mikus has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the holistic development of students. He has led student conduct and crisis response systems, developed early-alert and intervention programs, and championed efforts to support at-risk and first-generation students. His extensive background in residential life has shaped his belief in the power of living-learning communities to foster belonging, leadership, and personal growth.

Mikus holds a doctorate in administration & leadership studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in human services psychology from La Salle University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lebanon Valley College. He has also taught in first-year experience programs and contributed to institutional assessment and strategic planning initiatives.

In his new role at F&M, Mikus will oversee a wide portfolio that includes Residence Life and Housing, Student Accessibility Services, the Office of Wellness Programs/DipCares, Student Success, Assessment, and Student Conduct. He will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to further cultivate a campus culture rooted in equity, resilience, and engagement.

“I look forward to partnering with students, faculty, and colleagues across campus to create a vibrant, supportive, and empowering environment where every student can thrive.”
