As you prepare for your move to Franklin & Marshall College, please remember that we are committed to reducing our collective impact on the environment through sustainable practices in all areas of campus. We encourage you to purchase fewer items, reuse them when possible, and choose recycled or other low-impact products when you can.

Packing Do's & Don'ts

 Packing List 

  • Pack in reusable bins instead of using cardboard boxes
  • Backpack
  • Twin XLong sheets (mattress provided by the college)
  • Mattress cover
  • Mattress topper - Please read the label on the mattress topper to be sure it complies with the federal standards concerning flammability.
  • Pillow and pillow cases
  • Blanket/Comforter
  • Towels/Washcloths
  • Shower supplies/Shower caddy
  • Flip flops for the shower
  • Lamp/Floor lamp (halogen lamps are prohibited) *
  • Dust buster or Swiffer *
  • Tissues
  • Reusable water bottle. Also with reusable coffee mug/thermos discounts apply at Blue Line, LSP, and Mean Cup
  • Hangers
  • Laundry supplies (washers require HE (high efficiency) detergent)

  • A stand alone microwave is not permitted (most halls have an available microwave)
  • Electric blanket 
  • Candles/incense/oil burning lamps
  • Power tools
  • No guns, ammunition, or weapons, including but not limited to knives, darts, and swords
  • Pets (fish are permitted - max. aquarium size 10 gallon)
  • Paint guns or BB guns
  • No wooden frame or metal lofts
  • Firecrackers, fireworks or explosives
  • No gasoline motors of any type and no storing of fuels such as gasoline or propane
  • Air fresheners -students could be allergic
  • Upholstered furniture/ottomans/chairs, as all housing options are fully furnished
