Ian Kelly is an award-winning filmmaker, editor and animator. As a director of animated documentaries, Ian uses the unique qualities of the animated form to enliven stories of personal and historical memory. Ian's practice aligns the formal qualities of animation with characteristics of memory including fragmentation, transformation, and an emphasis on sensory details. His films have played in major film festivals, including the Chicago International Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Festival, and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. Ian was the Assistant Editor on the short film, The Neighbors’ Window, winner of the 2020 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. He has also edited videos for numerous museums, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
