"Politics, Public Opinion, and the Governmental Response to Natural Disasters"

To what extent does the American public feel sympathy for victims of recent natural disasters?  How do citizens think the government should address victims' needs?  Professors Schneider and Jacoby use high-quality survey data to address these questions, and they find that while much of the American public shows concern for the victims, preferences regarding how the government ought to respond are heavily influenced by various political factors.
