Summer Internship Support

Are you hearing the hype about summer internships? The Center for Career & Professional Development coaches students all year long on how to find, pursue and compete for opportunities, but we definitely get the most eager audiences around this time of year!

Hands-on summer experiences (internships, part-time jobs, research and shadowing) are all critical to students’ professional trajectory. Making contact with a field or role allows students to more clearly discern their career path, and each experience provides evidence to the next employer of what a candidate is capable of contributing.

The value of these summer experiences is real, but the anxiety that often surrounds the search for an internship is unnecessary. Explore these helpful resources and support the Career Center team offers; we encourage you to urge your students to make use of them.

Career Communities

The Career Center has five career communities (Business & Finance; Health; Social Impact & Creative; STEM; and Law & Government). Make sure your student has completed this quick form to sign up for one or more. Please note that link is only viewable with an F&M email address. If you'd like to learn more about career communities, we encourage you to visit our website!

Bi-Weekly Newsletter

Each career community director sends out a bi-weekly newsletter highlighting opportunities, recruiter campus visits, industry resources, and career-related programs and events. These newsletters are clear, curated spaces where resources, news, events and options are made readily accessible.

Foundation Fridays Workshop Series

The career center hosts a workshop every Friday to cover the foundational aspects of applications (resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, interviewing, networking and even “finding your path”). Please encourage your student to take advantage of these basic workshops to establish the materials and skills they need to apply and to present themselves to employers.

Programs & Events

We provide multiple opportunities every single week for students to connect with alumni, engage with employers, acquire skills, and deepen one’s knowledge of a field. Every career center program and event is available for students to see and register for on Ampersand, the College's events calendar.

Online Resources

All students have access to our internal Google Site, which provides links to general resources as well as industry-specific information and materials. Students can find our Google Site on their F&M Experience portal.

We also host links to the following platforms:

  • Handshake: Every student at F&M has a paid-for membership to Handshake, where hundreds of opportunities all around the world are posted every single day.  Employers can also search for potential employees on this site, so we encourage students to always maintain a complete/updated profile.
  • True Blue Network: The True Blue Network is a platform exclusively available to F&M students, alumni and members of the F&Mily. Students can search the job board for opportunities that come to us specifically through our F&M network.
  • Intern in Lancaster: We collect and share local internship opportunities on our “Intern in Lancaster” page for students, organized by career communities. Plenty of summer 2026 opportunities are already available!

Career Community Meetings & Individual Appointments

Career communities meet once a month, and every career community director hosts weekly drop-in hours where students can drop by and meet with them without making an appointment. In addition, every director offers daily individual appointment times available for students to register to meet with them.

Internships

Internships help students identify the careers and industries that best fit your distinctive talents and goals, while making them a more competitive applicant in the job market. Students can even submit an application to earn academic credit for their internship experiences.
