How the College Library Supports Your Student During Finals
There is always an increase in activity at the College Library as we enter the last few weeks of the semester. Between our two buildings, your student is bound to find a favorite place to study as finals approach. Study rooms of varying size in both buildings are available for students to reserve up to one week in advance. The College Library also hosts a number of fun events at the end of the month leading up to finals. Students should be on the lookout for information about our Edible Books Festival, study breaks, and a visit from the therapy dogs.
Beyond our spaces, the College Library provides access to a wide variety of resources that will allow your student to do their best work on final research papers and projects. More than 200 databases allow students to access journal articles, books, newspapers, magazines, and more across all disciplines on campus. If we don’t have immediate access to a particular item, your student can use Interlibrary Loan to borrow almost anything.
The librarians, however, are the most important resource for your student. You can think of us as research coaches. We often lead course-specific workshops tailored to a particular research assignment, and we’re available to meet one-on-one with students about their research. We can help students navigate our wide variety of sources and think through their search strategy to locate the most pertinent resources. We also provide guidance on evaluating their selected resources and direct them to tools for the various citation styles when they’re wrapping up their project. If you learn that your student is working on a research paper or project, please encourage them to reach out to the librarians. We love meeting with students about their research!
The gateway to all of the resources we provide your student is the College Library website. Students can search for resources, make an appointment to meet with a librarian, reserve a study room, check on the library hours, and find notifications for upcoming events – all in one place.
We look forward to seeing your student at the library over the next few weeks!
