Stephanie McConnell Appointed Executive Director of the Center for Career and Professional Development

After a national search, last month F&M announced that Stephanie McConnell has accepted the position of executive director of the Center for Career and Professional Development.

In making the internal announcement of her appointment, Vice President of Student Affairs Drew Stelljes, Ph.D., said, “In this vital role, Stephanie will provide strategic leadership for our thematic area of Career and Community, drawing upon her extensive background in experiential education, career development, public relations and student support.”

McConnell holds a master’s degree in English literature from Villanova University and graduated magna cum laude from Drew University with a bachelor of arts in English literature, with minors in German language and creative writing. Stelljes noted that “her academic achievements reflect a deep commitment to critical thinking and communications, skills she will leverage to enhance career pathways for our students.”

Most recently, as the director of employer and community partnerships at F&M, McConnell has been proactive in developing and implementing strategies that increase experiential learning and employment opportunities for students and graduates. She has successfully cultivated strong relationships with employers across various industries, enhancing their understanding of how an F&M education uniquely prepares students to contribute meaningfully to their organizations. Notable initiatives under her leadership include the creation of recruitment and informational events such as the Fall in Love with Lancaster Fair and the True Blue Career Fair, designed to connect students with local and alumni employers. Additionally, McConnell conducts targeted workshops that equip students with essential skills in networking, resume crafting and interview techniques, helping them enhance their marketability and competitiveness.

Prior to F&M, McConnell served as the director of Lasell Works at Lasell University, in Massachusetts, where she successfully managed a four-year career preparation and co-op program designed for largely underrepresented and minority students. Prior to her role at Lasell, McConnell held several leadership positions, including dean of student affairs at Ursuline Academy and vice principal at Delone Catholic High School. In these capacities, she cultivated inclusive environments, developed student leadership opportunities and championed community engagement. Her innovative approaches, such as launching new traditions and enhancing co-curricular experiences, significantly enriched the student community. She is highly regarded among F&M staff and faculty and will be a visible leader across campus and in the community.

“As she steps into her new role at the Center for Career and Professional Development, we are confident that Stephanie will inspire and empower our students, fostering a vibrant community where career aspirations can flourish,” Stelljes said. “Please join us in welcoming Stephanie McConnell to this pivotal position. We look forward to her leadership and vision as we work together to enhance the professional development journey for all our students.”
