Senior Lacrosse Standout Eyes Medical Career
Lauren Pittman ’26 wanted top-notch academics and a competitive lacrosse program when choosing a college. Franklin & Marshall offered her both.
“I realized I could get the best of both worlds by playing on a nationally ranked team while also pursuing my future and building solid connections for after graduation,” said Pittman, an attacker for the Diplomat women’s lacrosse team.
Pittman has already left her mark in the F&M record books, ranking second in school history in draw controls (286), second in game-winning goals (20), third in player advantage goals (20), fifth in goals (223), seventh in points (297), and 18th in assists (74). She is also approaching top 30 marks in school history for both ground balls and caused turnovers.
Prior to the spring season, Pittman was named the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III Preseason Player of the Year.
"I chose F&M not only for the intense and competitive lacrosse program, but also because
of its highly recognized academics," Lauren Pittman ’26 said.
A biology major, Pittman is currently studying to take the MCAT in August. Before starting medical school, she plans to work as a medical assistant to gain hands-on clinical hours.
An internship as a caregiver with Senior Helpers in Lancaster helped connect Pittman’s classroom knowledge to a real-world medical application.
“I was able to look at patient care, communication, and independence in a deeper way instead of just going through the routine of the job,” Pittman said. “It helped me better understand the real-world side of healthcare and how important adaptability and trust are when working one-on-one with patients. It made my work feel more meaningful and gave me a better perspective on the kind of patient-centered care I want to be involved in moving forward.”
Off the lacrosse pitch, Pittman has a handful of other talents. An accomplished vocalist, she has performed solo and with ensembles at the White House and across the globe, including venues in France and Japan. A seasoned golfer, Pittman returns to the green to relax when she’s visiting home in sunny Sanford, Fla.
Before Pittman dons a cap and gown at Commencement on May 9, she’ll lace up her cleats for a pivotal home game against Gettysburg College. The May 1 showdown at Shadek Stadium could advance the Diplomats to the Centennial Conference championship on May 3, with a potential NCAA bid to follow. Follow results and schedules here.
“I’ve learned that it is not just about how you perform, but also about showing up consistently and holding yourself accountable every day,” Pittman said.

Why did you choose to attend F&M?
I chose F&M not only for the intense and competitive lacrosse program, but also because of its highly recognized academics. I realized I could get the best of both worlds by playing on a nationally ranked team while also pursuing my future and building solid connections for after graduation. Not only this, but the people that this institute produces are unlike any other. I will truly have so many amazing friendships and connections because of F&M.
Why did you decide to pursue biology as a major?
I chose to pursue a major in biology because I enjoy learning about the human body, evolution, and different neurological pathways. I also wanted to be able to pursue pre-med requirements, such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. By majoring in biology, I was able to put my efforts towards both biological and medical sciences.
How have you grown as a leader at F&M?
I’ve learned that it is not just about how you perform, but also about showing up consistently and holding yourself accountable every day.
When I was an underclassman, my leadership role was unspoken, as I led more by example through my competitiveness and work ethic. Being an upperclassman, I’ve become more vocal and intentional, especially in high-pressure situations, making sure my teammates stay confident, focused, and supported. We’ve experienced major transitions that most teams do not experience. Unexpected situations allow for the most growth.
I have learned to persevere, stay composed, and lead in a way that keeps the team steady and focused, no matter what is going on around us.
What advice do you have for the incoming class of 2030?
Enjoy it! I know it sounds cliche, but it really does go by fast. Don’t come in feeling like you need to have everything figured out right away, because you won’t (and no one else does either).
Take advantage of the liberal arts opportunities and explore your options. Get involved early, but focus on things that genuinely matter to you instead of just what you think will look good on a resume. Take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves on campus, because those experiences end up shaping your time here more than you expect.
Being a student-athlete, time management is also huge, especially when balancing academics, athletics, and a social life. Learning how to manage your time early will make everything easier.
Build relationships with your professors, coaches, and teammates, because those connections are what make your experience meaningful. Overall, just be open to growth and be okay with things not going perfectly. Some of the best learning comes from figuring things out as you go.
