American Studies Internship Opportunities

American Studies students are encouraged to pursue internships during their college careers. Following are some organizations that offer a variety of opportunities related to AMS. In the past AMS majors and graduates have secured internships at the Louis Armstrong House, the Baseball Hall of Fame, CBS Sports, and the Smithsonian. some ideas for internships to apply for (some paid, some not). Students are encouraged to remember that the the only way to know for sure they won't get a competitive internship, is if they don't apply. The AMS professors are here to help. They'll look over application letters and do practice interviews.

Organizations Offering AMS-Related Interships

Commonwealth Foundation: Pennsylvania-based Internships in public policy, government affairs, and entrepreneur engagement.

 National Public Radio : Variety of internships, including production and marketing.  

The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA): Variety of internships at PNA-member organizatios across Pennsylvania, sometimes. including the local Lancaster newspaper (LNP).

The Smithsonian: Variety of  internships, including archives, educational programming, and marketing. 

York County History Center: Variety of internships including visitor engagement and education; library and archives; collections; communications and marketing; and gographic information systems.

Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the Office of Student and Post-Graduate Development (OSPGD), which offers a variety of internship resources, including connections with F&M alumni, internships listed on Handshake, and funding to supplement unpaid or low-paid internships.
