• African Drumming instructor Tammi Hessen performs at Faculty Recital, September 2017

Tammi Hessen, Conductor

The Western African Drumming Ensemble is designed for students of all majors to experience the tradition, art, folklore, and joy of percussion-based African music and song. The selections are based on traditional or non-traditional drumming pieces from African culture and others, and are designed to affect the body and inspire those who are listening. Students develop percussive techniques and rhythmic patterns that create authentic performances. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15-8:45 p.m. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.
