A music major shall acquire and/or develop:
a) proficient knowledge of and familiarity with representative styles, genres, and traditions of music from throughout the world
b) competence in working with primary and secondary source materials (i.e. information literacy)
c) a comprehensive music-theoretical knowledge of melody, harmony, rhythm, and form
d) skill with a variety of music analytical techniques and practices
e) competence in speaking and writing about music
f) proficiency at musical composition
g) competency in ear-training by way of sight-singing and melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation
h) technical skill and expressive capacity as a solo and ensemble performer
i) an understanding of performance protocols and stage etiquette
