Learning Objectives for Graduating Students in Biology

Biology Department Learning Outcomes
January 2018

The Biology Department at Franklin and Marshall College strives to develop the knowledge and skills for our Biology and Biology-related majors to be engaged, knowledgeable citizens and advocates for the understanding of biological science and scientific endeavors as they affect ourselves, our environment and our world.

We educate through engagement with current knowledge and the process of science as students:

1.  Learn concepts from across the breadth of biological disciplines, with depth in focused areas of interest.

2.  Utilize quantitative skills to develop and test novel research questions, ethically and in collaboration with others.

3. Synthesize and expand upon existing scientific theories and models by critically and analytically engaging with literature.

4. Hone skills as effective scientific communicators, through both writing and speaking.
