How F&M Does the Arts

Act in a play. Perform your favorite composition. Critique a classic film. Then take it a step further. Studying the arts at F&M means venturing beyond the surface, igniting your imagination, and discovering the profound ways the arts shape both yourself and the broader human experience.

At F&M, studying and making art go hand-in-hand. You’ll learn the technique and composition, theory and practice, critique and analysis you need to push the boundaries of your own creativity and imagination and uncover how artistic expression shapes our world. Our campus and local community are tailor-made to incubate artists. F&M’s home city of Lancaster features a vibrant arts scene to inspire creativity, and the College’s world-class facilities include the Winter Visual Arts Center, the Writers House, the Phillips Museum of Art, the Roschel Performing Arts Center, and more.

Whether as a major, a rewarding extracurricular pursuit, or another path entirely, the arts are a vital thread woven into the tapestry of a complete F&M liberal arts education, enriching your perspective and honing skills critical for any field.

“My friends and professors at F&M helped me pursue the arts seriously and with all my heart.”

— Samantha Correa ’24

“The arts at F&M have been an integral part of my college experience.”

“Singing with F&M's Chamber Singers and playing piano in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and orchestra have allowed me to foster meaningful relationships with my professors and fellow students. I love being a part of F&M's musical community and find it incredibly meaningful to be part of something that is bigger than myself. Some of my closest friends are people I met through ensembles, and a lot of my favorite college memories are from my three and a half years involved in music. In addition to my musical experience, I also work as a gallery assistant at the Phillips Art Museum, where I get to interact with visitors who have come to appreciate the art displays.”
