Sociology majors graduating from F&M should:
  • be able to use the sociological perspective as a way of looking at the world.

  • be familiar with key issues and findings in a range of important sub-fields within the discipline.

  • be able to recognize connections between sociology and the perspectives of other disciplines, especially those in the social sciences.

  • be familiar with the major theorists and theoretical frameworks in sociology.

  • be familiar with a variety of sociological methods and possess the ability to evaluate the research of others.

  • be able to design and conduct their own research.

  • be able to use the sociological voice in written work, especially with respect to presenting and analyzing quantitative data.
