The 2022 Jerome Irving Bank Memorial Short Story Prize

The 2022 Bank Visiting Writer and Jerome Irving Bank Memorial Short Story Prize judge is author Weike Wang.

Wang hosted an afternoon craft talk at the Philadelphia Alumni Writers House on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

Later in the evening, Wang read from her book, Joan is Okay: A Novel, at the Winters Visual Arts Center Cinema.

  • Mauser’s story, “Chasing the Solar Eclipse," follows a high school-aged protagonist through two relationships and what lingers beyond them. “It's a story about searching for something tangential to love and finding closure,” Mauser said.

The 2022 Jerome Irving Bank Memorial Short Story Prize winner is Jeremy Mauser '22. His winning short story is titled "Chasing the Solar Eclipse".

  • Pham’s story, "The last moments of different intelligent species,” explores unnamed planets with sentient life being struck by asteroids.
 
“There are no characters or series of events – the whole piece just goes into how these societies collectively deal with mass extinction,” Pham said.

Vincent (Minh) Pham '25 was selected as runner-up.  His short story is titled "The last moments of different intelligent species".
