1. An English major will be able to demonstrate skills of reading: students must demonstrate the ability to read figuratively, analytically, interpretively, actively, and self-consciously.
  2. An English major will be able to demonstrate skills of writing: students must demonstrate the ability to write clearly; incorporate evidence gracefully; write grammatically, persuasively, fluently; use discipline-specific language; use appropriate tone; write with rhetorical deftness.
  3. An English major will be able to demonstrate skills of argumentation:  students must demonstrate the ability to gather evidence, whether textual or contextual, in literary analysis; develop competencies and skills to structure and organize information from literary and (when asked) secondary sources.
